Discover Daratan Foods

If you’re wandering through Tbilisi and find yourself near 38a Lubliana Street, you’ll want to step inside Daratan Foods. I’ve visited more than once, both on a quick weekday lunch break and on a relaxed weekend evening with friends, and each time the experience felt consistent, welcoming, and genuinely satisfying. The location itself is easy to reach, tucked into a lively neighborhood in Tbilisi, Georgia, where local businesses and residential buildings blend into everyday city life.

The first thing that stands out is the atmosphere. It’s casual but thoughtfully arranged, with warm lighting and a clean, comfortable dining area. You can tell the team pays attention to detail. The menu isn’t overloaded, which I appreciate. Instead, it focuses on well-prepared dishes that reflect a mix of Georgian flavors and familiar comfort food. That balance makes it appealing whether you’re a tourist exploring local cuisine or a resident craving something reliable.

On my first visit, I ordered a traditional Georgian-inspired plate featuring freshly baked bread and seasoned meat, paired with a crisp salad. The bread had that perfect golden crust-something you usually only get when it’s made in-house or sourced from a trusted local bakery. According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, dining out in Tbilisi has grown steadily over the past few years, reflecting a broader shift toward quality-focused eateries. Places like this are part of that evolution, where customers expect freshness, transparency, and good service all in one.

What impressed me most was how the kitchen handles preparation. I had the chance to speak briefly with a staff member who explained that ingredients are sourced from local suppliers whenever possible. That approach aligns with global research from organizations like the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which emphasizes the value of short supply chains for freshness and sustainability. You can taste the difference. The vegetables are vibrant, the herbs aromatic, and the proteins cooked with care rather than rushed out to meet demand.

Service here feels personal without being intrusive. During one busy evening, I noticed how the staff coordinated smoothly, checking in just enough to make sure everything was right. In online reviews, customers often mention consistency and friendliness, and from my experience, that feedback holds true. It’s not just about delivering plates to the table; it’s about creating a relaxed dining flow where you feel looked after.

Another highlight is how clearly the menu is structured. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Georgian cuisine, descriptions make the dishes easy to understand. Complex flavor profiles-like the combination of spices, walnuts, and herbs typical in regional cooking-are explained in simple terms. That clarity matters. According to hospitality experts from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, clear menu communication significantly improves guest satisfaction because diners feel more confident about their choices.

Prices are reasonable for Tbilisi, especially considering portion size and ingredient quality. I’ve recommended this spot to colleagues visiting the city for business, and their feedback echoed mine: dependable food, convenient location, and a comfortable place to talk over a meal. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite, meeting friends for dinner, or exploring new restaurants in the area, the setting works.

Of course, like any popular diner, peak hours can mean a short wait. I’ve experienced that on Friday nights. Still, the turnover is efficient, and the staff keeps things moving without making guests feel rushed. If anything, the steady stream of customers speaks to its growing reputation.

In a city filled with diverse dining options, from traditional khinkali houses to modern cafés, this spot manages to hold its own. The combination of thoughtful preparation, attentive service, and a well-balanced menu makes it more than just another address on Lubliana Street. It’s a place where quality and comfort meet, and where each visit feels reliably satisfying.

  • This is the first time I'm having traditional African food and I loved it! The portion size of the pounded yam and the soup was good for two of us girls. The ingredients used are authentic and the food is different from most other cuisines I've had. The bread used for the egg sandwich was so fresh and delicious! Staff are friendly and helpful and will help with suggestions if you're not sure what to get

  • Authentic nice place. The food is really savoury, all of it, from chicken stew and fried rice to egusi soup and beef pies. The chef was very kind to suggest improvements to my orders )

  • THANK YOU NIGERIA! After a long day of waking up at 11am, reading in bed, taking a car to the Chronicles of Georgia, sitting at the lookout over the Tbilisi Sea, eating wine ice cream from a truck, and frequenting pharmacies for our medicinal needs, we had worked up quite the appetite…..I’m sure you can imagine. When we found Daratan Foods we had a sneaking suspicion it would hit just the spot. Our waitress was beautiful and kind, and told us what we might enjoy. Mya and myself shared Egusi with beef and swallow, and jollof rice with peppered chicken. It rocked!!! We couldn’t eat it all and the only photo I got was of our mostly eaten plates.
